The Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service (WRAS) – Trent Park, North London

Suitable for under 5s

trent park wras 3W.R.A.S is a great charity that runs a rescue centre and hospital for wild animals in North London.

The centre is open to visitors every day except for Christmas Day.  We visited the centre and saw a mixture of  birds and animals that live here including ponies, pigs, sheep, feral goats, chickens, ducks, geese and owls.

Injured animals are nursed back to health and the ones that can’t be released into the wild are looked after for the rest of their life.

We also saw a goat being groomed by a magpie! The magpie was sliding all over the goat’s back and side.  It was looking for ticks to eat.

The ponies are Shetland Ponies called Dusty, and Zippy,You can adopt them and the adoption includes a visit to groom them. Other animals can also be adopted which helps to pay for food, bedding and vet’s fees.  See details for adoption here

trent park wras 4We saw several owls in the aviary and then wandered through the deer walk which has a nature trail and models of animals.

After using the hand washing area, we then went to the picnic area and playground.  There is a castle, pirate ship, wooden bus and swings and slides to play on.

The entrance to the centre is through the small cafe and shop. All the profits go to run the wildlife centre There are no toilets – the nearest are by the cafeteria at the Cockfosters entrance to Trent Park.
