Apples, Shenley Park and The Orchard Cafe

The orchards and walled garden of Shenley Hospital provided food and therapy for patients before it closed. It now provides a great place for ‘The Mayhems’ to run around.

Paths take you around the meadows and through the orchard which has over 450 apple trees. There is a small playground for the tiny munchkins in the Orchard.

The larger playground is by the ‘Cafe in the Orchard’ and the car park.

We often take the munchkins to the playground and then have a meal. The freshly prepared foods are very tasty and my is favourite the buttermilk pancakes for breakfast.

Abbie and Sam always ask for ‘tuna jacket potato’ from the children’s menu.

You can walk from the car park to the walled garden where you can see rabbits and chickens. There are usually apples or apple juice to buy from a small stall here. Just leave your money in the honesty box

If you are feeling energetic  you can follow one of the walks around the area. The park produces a leaflet that you can download here.

Every year an Apple Day is held in October with all sorts of events including apple juice demonstrations, apple games as well as home made refreshments and bouncy castle.

The gardens also host concerts and open air theatre productions. For more details see the Shenley Park website.
