Museum of London Docklands

It is lovely when you show your friends a place you really like and then they in turn share it with their family.

Papa Joe and I took our friends to The Museum of London/Docklands which is housed in an old sugar warehouse at West India Quay. Our friends enjoyed their visit so much that they brought their two granddaughters to the museum a few weeks later. The girls loved the journey on the Docklands Light Railway and when they got to the museum they had a great time.

A few weeks later we took two of our mayhems to the museum. They enjoyed wandering along the dock looking at the boats moored along side the museum.

We took the lift up to the top floor and then wandered down through time! The Mayhems enjoyed trying out the interactive activities.  The museum is part of The Museum Of London and tells the story of London’s trading history and how the docks developed.

Sniff the holes in the box lid. Have you guessed the contents? Just some of the items shipped into the docks.

We then wandered through Sailortown, an atmospheric reconstruction of  the typical Victorian streets surrounding the docks

Fascinating peering into the shop selling wild animals

When it was the correct time we went to the Mudlarks Gallery, which is a specially designed interactive play area for families. Check the website for the opening hours to avoid disappointment  – during term time it is only open to the public in the afternoon.
