Museum of Childhood – Bethnal Green

Papa Joe and I took the Mayhems with their mother to The Museum of Childhood in Bethnal Green.

We carefully timed our visit so that we were in time for the Animal Magic sensory storytelling session. It certainly worked its magic and had all the Mayhems enthralled. After the story telling the Mayhems then joined in a craft session.

You can also get special themed activity packs to take around the museum for your younger Mayhems which have games, story books and objects to touch. You can find the activity packs at the central information desk by the shop and cafe. The packs are free but you do have to leave some ID such as a driving licence or passport when you pick them up.

Family Fun Fridays Storytelling In The Summer Holidays

After storytelling and craft session we wandered around the galleries with their mixture of large glass display cases and areas with activities for children.   Papa Joe, our daughter and I loved looking nostalgically at the cases full of old toys, baby equipment and children’s clothes – memories, memories!

Our daughter took the Mayhems to see the lovely dolls house display but Sky ignored  them, made a bee line for the old fashioned kitchen, and was soon enjoying herself cooking.

Papa Joe was full of nostalgia for the old enamel plates!

The Mayhems also tried out some of the areas where they could experiment and play – such as the sensory pod and the seaside themed sand pit.

The Moving Toys Gallery also had a few activities to try including two large rocking horses.
