Home Made Easter Eggs

easter egg 1Recently the nice people at Stay In Devon sent our daughter a special Easter Egg Kit containing chocolate chips, sweets to go into the egg, a thin plastic mould, and a chef’s hat.

Now my daughter’s munchkin won’t be 3 for another 2 months so it was all hands to the deck to help out.

I was amazed to see how easy it was to make the chocolate eggs.

I gently heated the chocolate chips in a glass bowl in the microwave until they all had melted.

At the same time ‘the sous chef’ was greasing the moulds with a little cooking on oil on kitchen towel.

The next step was to carefully coat the mould with chocolate, let it set in the fridge and then add another layer of chocolate.

We gently reheated the chocolate between layers.

The chocolate was spread quite patchily but everyone was impatient to see how it would come out so we only used two thin  layers.

While we waited for the chocolate to set the sous chef indulged in cook’s perks!

The warmth of our hands loosened the chocolate enough for the egg half to drop out of the moulds.and we then put the sweets inside.

If you warm an oven tray and place the halves edge side down it melts the chocolate enough so that the halves stick together. Brilliant!
