Climbing High On Bournemouth Pier at RockReef

Rock climbing makes a change from the usual end of pier activities. If you or the children are adventurous then the new RockReef on Bournemouth Pier is for you.

The interior of the pier theatre has been completely rebuilt to provide a large indoor activity with a variety of climbing walls and an aerial obstacle course. There are activities suitable for anyone over 4 years old; for the less adventurous like Papa Joe and me you can watch all the fun from the coffee shop which overlooks the activity area.  When you want to get back to dry land there is a giant zip wire from the end of the pier to the beach.

The climbing walls here look a lot of fun, with all sorts of patterns to provide footholds to scramble up.

There are plenty of instructors who work with you to make sure you can do the climbs and tackle the aerial obstacle course safely. They check that everyone are safely harnessed. At the base of each climb is a soft mat to land on as you abseil back to the ground.

Our oldest ‘Mayhem’ Daisy was 4 when she had her first taste of artificial rock wall climbing and I am looking forward to seeing her try out all the climbs in RockReef. Our other ‘Mayhems’ will have to wait as they are too young, although the way baby Sam is pulling himself up on the furniture I am sure he will be into climbing as he gets bigger!
