Adventure Walks For Families – review

adventure walks1As you might realise from our Quiz Walk section both Papa Joe and I love wandering around different places and combining walks with interesting facts to look out for.

Recently one of our walking friends mentioned the Adventure Walks series by Becky Jones and Clare Lewis so we had to take a look.

I wish Adventure Walks Books had been around when our children were young because they contain some great ideas.

We can’t wait to try them out with the munchkins when they next come to stay with us.

We looked at  ‘Adventure Walks For Families In and Around London’

You can see the other books in their range including maps specially designed for children at Adventure Walks Books

The book is packed full of useful information and  illustrations.

adventure walks3It starts with an essential walk pack and a page of brilliant diversionary tactics, just right for the munchkins when they start to flag.

Four year old Daisy loved seeing a stage version of ‘We Are Going on a Bear Hunt’ so I am sure we will be doing precisely that the next time we go walking!

adventure walks2At the back of the book are sections on animals, plants and buildings to look out for when walking.

And then of course in the main part of the book are 25 themed walks in and around London.

Each walk has a hand drawn map with instructions how to get to the walk and how to follow the walk as well as suggestions of nearby places to eat or visit after the walk..

But what makes each walk special are the ideas for an adventure, for example ‘Lets Go Fly A Kite’ walk on Hampstead Heath has instructions on making a paper boat to sail on the boating lake.

There are other books in the series and are directly available from Adventure Walks Books,  the publishers Frances Lincoln or from other retail booksellers. We can’t wait for more in the series.
